Day12: Danby Wiske to Ingleby Cross

Rick came to us at breakfast to tell us that he had decided to give up the walk and go to London with Erin. Therefore we would be back to the four of us from now on. Tinny and Adryan had left early in the morning, since they were going to Clay Bank Top today, and so we shall not see them again. Leaving Danby Wiske, we travelled along the road for a while, and were pleased to get onto field paths again opposite the drive to Lazenby Hall Farm. The path looked rarely used: I suspect many Coast-to-Coasters continue along the road for this section. The path was a little confusing, and one stile in particular was overgrown and difficult to squeeze through.

Changing the GPS batteries en-route!

Eventually, the path made an inauspicious entrance onto the road at Oaktree Hill. A short way along the road we turned into a track which took us past Moor House and Northfield Farm. From here we turned onto a road which was being resurfaced, just managing to squeeze past the resurfacing machine, which took up most of the roadway. We turned down to cross the railway by a level crossing, not the obvious one straight ahead, but one across to the left.

Yet more fields and yet more road then we passed the ruin of Breckon Hill (a farmhouse, not a physical feature) and zigzagged along the drive to reach the A19.

A sign at the garage on the A19 told us that there was no shop in Ingleby - this turned out to be correct, except for a tiny Post Office (closed anyway) that sells only Post Office related items, and is not a general store. Taking our life in our own hands, we dashed across the busy road - quite a shock to the system to meet traffic like this!

From here it was just a short stroll past the water tower at Ingleby Arncliffe ...

... and the Blue Bell Inn, our accommodation for the night. We had sandwiches at the pub for lunch, and then went to our rooms.

It turned out that not only did they have a spin dryer for drying clothes, they also had a wonderful free internet room. I certainly took advantage of these facilities to catch up on the web!
