For the last 12 years, Naomi has overseen the training of our Pit Administration volunteers for the FIRST Robotics Competition. If you have ever attended the FIRST Championship you might recognize her from running the “Pits” and working alongside our teams and volunteers. Her background includes hospitality and project management. Before her work at FIRST, Naomi worked for the Empire State Development Corporation where she worked on the beautification of 42nd Street between 7th and 8th avenues in New York City. She even has her name on a plaque in the New 42nd Street Theater!
Naomi attended Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire.

In this role, Kerri is responsible for refining and executing FIRST’s alliances strategy and strengthening the strong relationships FIRST has with other non-profits and like-minded organizations focused on diversity, education and STEM workforce development. In addition, Kerri is responsible for advocacy efforts and government relations.
Kerri has been a familiar face to FIRST for many years dating back to her high school days as a member of FRC Team #16, The Baxter Bomb Squad. For the past thirteen years, Kerri has worked with FIRST in numerous capacities, primarily in her role with DEKA Research and Development. Kerri served as the Chief-of-Staff to Dean Kamen where she was responsible for overseeing daily operations on behalf of Dean, as well as coordinating all media coverage and directing communication and outreach among DEKA, Dean and many external partners. While at DEKA, Kerri regularly engaged with FIRST and helped facilitate communication and logistical coordination between FIRST Staff and Dean. Most recently, Kerri was a consultant to both FIRST and DEKA where she has helped with event planning, project development and strategic outreach efforts.
Kerri brings with her an extensive policy background and has worked on numerous domestic and international policy initiatives. She helped her home state of Arkansas obtain a $1.3 million dollar state insurance planning grant. She also spent time living and working in Cameroon and Singapore developing and implementing population specific health and educational programs.
Kerri obtained her undergraduate degree from Hendrix College and her graduate degrees from Johns Hopkins University and Oxford University. She was a Truman Scholar and Jack Kent Cooke Scholar.
Kerri and her husband, Brad, are parents to their five-year-old son, Wells. They, along with their two dogs, live in Savannah, Georgia where Kerri is based. ",

Besides taking an inherently social and hands-on endeavor and forcing a pivot to a remote setting, the dramatic reduction of in-person interactions and economic uncertainty drastically limited fundraising opportunities. Prior to the pandemic, the multi-year Tesla Education Investment in Nevada sparked substantial team growth by providing registration, equipment, and training to new teams as well as infrastructure support for FIRST Nevada. Even with the continual Tesla investment during the pandemic—along with new support from other industry partners—teams struggled as schools and coaches shifted their focus toward pandemic related issues and away from FIRST robotics.
To assist teams in their recovery from the pandemic, FIRST Nevada partnered with the Nevada Department of Education (NDE). Through this partnership FIRST Nevada received a $4 million grant as part of the NDE’s American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ARP ESSER) funds. The grant complements the existing Tesla Education Investment by focusing on post-pandemic team retention and enabling FIRST Nevada to increase the number of robotics teams statewide, with the large-scale goal of securing a FIRST team in every public school in Nevada.
As part of this complementary grant investment, FIRST Nevada developed a sustainable organizational structure; developed new forms of team and financial tracking; adopted new policies and procedures; and expanded their infrastructure support with key positions. Furthermore, this was accomplished in tandem with a cautious return to in-person events while heading into uncharted territory as we navigate a post-pandemic world.

She was instrumental in securing the Tesla Education Investment in Nevada and recently secured a $4 million grant from the Nevada Department of Education with the goal of securing a robotics program in every public school in Nevada. Serving as both the Regional Director and Executive Director for FIRST Nevada, a nonprofit running all FIRST programs in the state, Angela has been an integral part of working with their strategic Board to ensure the infrastructure is in place to support program expansion and sustainability of FIRST programs in Nevada. Angela has been with FIRST since 2015, and her son has participated in the FIRST LEGO League, FIRST Tech Challenge, and FIRST Robotics Competition programs. She loves FIRST and is a huge ambassador of expanding FIRST programs across Nevada Dr Louis Rubbo’s adventures with FIRST began in 2012 when he was recruited to coach a FIRST LEGO League team at his son’s school. That same season, he became the tournament director for the local FLL qualifier. After 3 seasons of coaching and hosting qualifiers, Dr Rubbo became the South Carolina Program Delivery Partner for FLL. At the same time he also assumed the role as president of the non-profit organization, South Carolina FIRST LEGO League & Robotics Education, Inc. Also in 2015, Dr Rubbo joined the planning committee for the FIRST Robotics Competition Palmetto Regional, and became a regular volunteer at the regional. A year later Dr Rubbo founded team 11454, The Penguineers, a FIRST Tech Challenge neighborhood team based out of Myrtle Beach. After 13 years as a professor of astrophysics at Coastal Carolina University, Dr Rubbo moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where he now works full-time as the Team Development & Education Specialist with FIRST Nevada. Leilani Pavlik first came to know FIRST in 2013 when her daughter joined a FIRST LEGO League team. She began coaching in 2014 and has been coaching (Explore (1 yr), Challenge (5 yrs), and FIRST Tech Challenge (4yrs)) ever since. Leilani has been with the FIRST Nevada since 2018 assisting with grants administration, team growth and serving as the Volunteer Coordinator for all of the events and programs in southern Nevada.
With over 20 years as a licensed Certified Public Accountant, and degrees (BSBA & MAcc) in Accounting, she is excited to use her skillset to help grow all of the FIRST programs in the state of Nevada.",

For the last 12 years, Naomi has overseen the training of our Pit Administration volunteers for the FIRST Robotics Competition. If you have ever attended the FIRST Championship you might recognize her from running the “Pits” and working alongside our teams and volunteers. Her background includes hospitality and project management. Before her work at FIRST, Naomi worked for the Empire State Development Corporation where she worked on the beautification of 42nd Street between 7th and 8th avenues in New York City. She even has her name on a plaque in the New 42nd Street Theater!
Naomi attended Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire.

In addition, Kerri is responsible for advocacy efforts and government relations.
Kerri has been a familiar face to FIRST for many years dating back to her high school days as a member of FRC Team #16, The Baxter Bomb Squad. For the past thirteen years, Kerri has worked with FIRST in numerous capacities, primarily in her role with DEKA Research and Development. Kerri served as the Chief-of-Staff to Dean Kamen where she was responsible for overseeing daily operations on behalf of Dean, as well as coordinating all media coverage and directing communication and outreach among DEKA, Dean and many external partners. While at DEKA, Kerri regularly engaged with FIRST and helped facilitate communication and logistical coordination between FIRST Staff and Dean. Most recently, Kerri was a consultant to both FIRST and DEKA where she has helped with event planning, project development and strategic outreach efforts.
Kerri brings with her an extensive policy background and has worked on numerous domestic and international policy initiatives. She helped her home state of Arkansas obtain a $1.3 million dollar state insurance planning grant. She also spent time living and working in Cameroon and Singapore developing and implementing population specific health and educational programs.
Kerri obtained her undergraduate degree from Hendrix College and her graduate degrees from Johns Hopkins University and Oxford University. She was a Truman Scholar and Jack Kent Cooke Scholar.
Kerri and her husband, Brad, are parents to their five-year-old son, Wells. They, along with their two dogs, live in Savannah, Georgia where Kerri is based. ",

In 2022 the Tallahassee Regional was born sending a wave of excitement across North Florida. Natalie Turcotte is the Manager of Volunteer Systems and Training for FIRST. Natalie has been part of the Volunteer Resources Department for the past eleven years. She currently oversees the management of volunteer software tools. Natalie also leads the volunteer training and management efforts across programs to help support and connect volunteers. Natalie is also a FIRST Event Volunteer and mentor of FIRST Robotics Team 1922, Oz-Ram in NH. ",

In addition to front-line support, this team (comprising just 4 staff members) works closely with the programs managing key projects. For the last 12 years, Naomi has overseen the training of our Pit Administration volunteers for the FIRST Robotics Competition. If you have ever attended the FIRST Championship you might recognize her from running the “Pits” and working alongside our teams and volunteers. Her background includes hospitality and project management. Before her work at FIRST, Naomi worked for the Empire State Development Corporation where she worked on the beautification of 42nd Street between 7th and 8th avenues in New York City. She even has her name on a plaque in the New 42nd Street Theater!
Naomi attended Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire.
Fun Fact: Naomi’s superpower is gardening and is a native Spanish speaker. ",

While this vision has held throughout its history, FIRST Nevada has gone through a number of growing pains as the organization continually adapted to an ever changing landscape. Through the introduction of new FIRST programs, the challenges associated with economic recessions, and a global pandemic that forced dramatic changes in program delivery, FIRST Nevada has found ways to stay resilient. In order to support team and program growth, while attaining a fiscally sustainable budget through these challenges, FIRST Nevada had to develop new policies and procedures. When coupled with the introduction of well defined roles and responsibilities, the non-profit is able to promote a shared vision across the entire organization. Through its unified voice, FIRST Nevada has been able to cultivate partnerships with regional industry leaders, school districts, and the Nevada state government. Using FIRST Nevada as a guide, industry, education, and government are now rallied together with the ambitious, but realistic goal of having a FIRST robotics team in every public school in the state.
In this presentation, we’ll discuss the FIRST Nevada organizational chart, and what led to its structure. We’ll also share the roles and responsibility within the organization that help to promote the goal of a FIRST team in every school. Lastly, we’ll touch on how past and existing partnerships have helped shape FIRST Nevada into a sustainable example for a FIRST Partner Organization.",

"presenter_bio": "Biography: Jean Hoppert was a Technical Director at Masterfoods USA, before retiring in October 2003. Her experiences include 34 years in manufacturing and engineering with three different companies in seven different locations with extensive experience with new product startups. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan and a master’s in business administration from Xavier in Cincinnati. Jean also holds Professional Engineer registration in Nevada, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Jean is a fellow of the Society of Women Engineers, and is a member of the SWE Las Vegas Valley Section. In 2005, Jean started FIRST Nevada to promote STEAM programs in Las Vegas and Nevada and currently serves as the Vice President of the Board. Her current volunteer work focuses on providing the FIRST and STEAM programs for Nevada.
With over 15 years of fundraising and nonprofit management experience, Angela Quick has secured multi-year, multi-million dollar funding for FIRST Nevada and FIRST teams statewide. She was instrumental in securing the Tesla Education Investment in Nevada and recently secured a $4 million grant from the Nevada Department of Education with the goal of securing a robotics program in every public school in Nevada. Serving as both the Regional Director and Executive Director for FIRST Nevada, a nonprofit running all FIRST programs in the state, Angela has been an integral part of working with their strategic Board to ensure the infrastructure is in place to support program expansion and sustainability of FIRST programs in Nevada. Angela has been with FIRST since 2015, and her son has participated in the FIRST LEGO League, FIRST Tech Challenge, and FIRST Robotics Competition programs. She loves FIRST and is a huge ambassador of expanding FIRST programs across Nevada.
Dr Louis Rubbo’s adventures with FIRST began in 2012 when he was recruited to coach a FIRST LEGO League team at his son’s school. That same season, he became the tournament director for the local FLL qualifier. After 3 seasons of coaching and hosting qualifiers, Dr Rubbo became the South Carolina Program Delivery Partner for FLL. At the same time he also assumed the role as president of the non-profit organization, South Carolina FIRST LEGO League & Robotics Education, Inc. Also in 2015, Dr Rubbo joined the planning committee for the FIRST Robotics Competition Palmetto Regional, and became a regular volunteer at the regional. A year later Dr Rubbo founded team 11454, The Penguineers, a FIRST Tech Challenge neighborhood team based out of Myrtle Beach. After 13 years as a professor of astrophysics at Coastal Carolina University, Dr Rubbo moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where he now works full-time as the Team Development & Education Specialist with FIRST Nevada. ",

In addition, Kerri is responsible for advocacy efforts and government relations.
Kerri has been a familiar face to FIRST for many years dating back to her high school days as a member of FRC Team #16, The Baxter Bomb Squad. For the past thirteen years, Kerri has worked with FIRST in numerous capacities, primarily in her role with DEKA Research and Development. Kerri served as the Chief-of-Staff to Dean Kamen where she was responsible for overseeing daily operations on behalf of Dean, as well as coordinating all media coverage and directing communication and outreach among DEKA, Dean and many external partners. While at DEKA, Kerri regularly engaged with FIRST and helped facilitate communication and logistical coordination between FIRST Staff and Dean. Most recently, Kerri was a consultant to both FIRST and DEKA where she has helped with event planning, project development and strategic outreach efforts.
Kerri brings with her an extensive policy background and has worked on numerous domestic and international policy initiatives. She helped her home state of Arkansas obtain a $1.3 million dollar state insurance planning grant. She also spent time living and working in Cameroon and Singapore developing and implementing population specific health and educational programs.
Kerri obtained her undergraduate degree from Hendrix College and her graduate degrees from Johns Hopkins University and Oxford University. She was a Truman Scholar and Jack Kent Cooke Scholar.
Kerri and her husband, Brad, are parents to their five-year-old son, Wells. They, along with their two dogs, live in Savannah, Georgia where Kerri is based. ",

Dana is currently the Regional Director for Alabama, but she also supports FIRST programs in Arkansas, Kentucky, and Tennessee. She has been involved with FIRST since 1996, first as a mentor for FRC Team 33 & 34 and then as the FIRST LEGO League Program Delivery Partner for Alabama from 1999 – 2013. She is a certified Crucial Learning trainer and enjoys teaching Crucial Conversations for Mastering Dialogue and Getting Things Done to FIRST staff and Program Delivery Partners. With over 15 years of fundraising and nonprofit management experience, Angela Quick has secured multi-year, multi-million dollar funding for FIRST Nevada and FIRST teams statewide. She was instrumental in securing the Tesla Education Investment in Nevada and recently secured a $4 million grant from the Nevada Department of Education with the goal of securing a robotics program in every public school in Nevada. Serving as both the Regional Director and Executive Director for FIRST Nevada, a nonprofit running all FIRST programs in the state, Angela has been an integral part of working with their strategic Board to ensure the infrastructure is in place to support program expansion and sustainability of FIRST programs in Nevada. Angela has been with FIRST since 2015, and her son has participated in the FIRST LEGO League, FIRST Tech Challenge, and FIRST Robotics Competition programs. She loves FIRST and is a huge ambassador of expanding FIRST programs across Nevada. Marie Hopper is President of FIRST North Carolina, a statewide nonprofit dedicated to inspiring the next generation of engineers, innovators, and STEM leaders. She began her FIRST career as a FIRST LEGO League (FLL) coach in 2001. Over the course of nine years, she coached 27 FLL teams, 3 FIRST LEGO League Jr. (FLL Jr.) teams, a FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) team and a FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team. She thought she was retired from FIRST when her son graduated high school but the coaching community had other ideas! She became the Regional Director for North Carolina in 2009 and helped orchestrate the first-ever FRC Regional Tournament in North Carolina in 2010. FIRST North Carolina was founded in 2012 to advance the mission of FIRST even further in North Carolina. Marie is passionate about the mission of FIRST North Carolina - ensuring that every student in the state of North Carolina has access to a high-quality FIRST program. With 19 years of experience in FIRST and a Master's in Nonprofit Management, Renee Becker-Blau wants to ensure that EVERY student, regardless of gender, race, or socioeconomic background has the opportunity to choose if they would like to pursue a career in STEM, instead of the choice being made for them due to their life circumstances or zip code.

Dana is currently the Regional Director for Alabama, but she also supports FIRST programs in Arkansas, Kentucky, and Tennessee. She established an organizational model in Alabama for running FIRST programs statewide, which has been used in other states. She has been involved with FIRST since 1996, first as a mentor for FRC Team 33 & 34 and then as the FIRST LEGO League Program Delivery Partner for Alabama from 1999 – 2013. She is a certified Crucial Learning trainer and enjoys teaching Crucial Conversations for Mastering Dialogue and Getting Things Done to FIRST staff and Program Delivery Partners. With over 15 years of fundraising and nonprofit management experience, Angela Quick has secured multi-year, multi-million dollar funding for FIRST Nevada and FIRST teams statewide. She was instrumental in securing the Tesla Education Investment in Nevada and recently secured a $4 million grant from the Nevada Department of Education with the goal of securing a robotics program in every public school in Nevada. Serving as both the Regional Director and Executive Director for FIRST Nevada, a nonprofit running all FIRST programs in the state, Angela has been an integral part of working with their strategic Board to ensure the infrastructure is in place to support program expansion and sustainability of FIRST programs in Nevada. Angela has been with FIRST since 2015, and her son has participated in the FIRST LEGO League, FIRST Tech Challenge, and FIRST Robotics Competition programs. She loves FIRST and is a huge ambassador of expanding FIRST programs across Nevada. With 19 years of experience in FIRST and a Master's in Nonprofit Management, Renee Becker-Blau wants to ensure that EVERY student, regardless of gender, race, or socioeconomic background has the opportunity to choose if they would like to pursue a career in STEM, instead of the choice being made for them due to their life circumstances or zip code. Prior to joining FIRST Ken was Vice President of Ward Hill Marketing, a technology marketing group that worked with emerging technologies in various markets including alternative energy, semiconductor process equipment, and photonics. He also served as Vice President of Labsphere, a photonics company serving research, defense, and commercial entities worldwide. Ken has an undergraduate degree in finance from the University of South Florida and earned his MBA at the University of New Hampshire. JoAnn Halloran is a Senior Program Manager for FIRST Tech Challenge. She thinks the best part of her role is having the opportunity to work with, learn from, and be inspired by the amazing people who volunteer for FIRST. Danny Diaz is the Senior Engineering Manager for FIRST Tech Challenge. Danny is a passionate advocate for Engineering Education and making STEM accessible to everyone. Danny has almost two decades of experience volunteering/organizing/supporting FIRST programs, and is excited about having the opportunity to begin shaping the next two decades. Elizabeth McClurg is the Project Manager for FTC Scoring event management system, FTC Live scoring system and FTC-Events website and technical content. She enjoys working with an amazing group group of volunteer SME’s and software engineers who volunteer their time to provide the FTC community with a platform to manage their events, scale event and community participation each season and optimize event activities (scoring, judging, inspection, and more). Rosy Bainton is a Program Coordinator for FIRST Tech Challenge where she gets to work with awesome people and support the work that they do to expand access to STEM education for kids of all ages. Erin Fadden is a Project Manager for FIRST Tech Challenge. Part of FIRST for nearly 9 years, her main roles are on the Game Design Committee and running the FTC Dean’s List Award. Marissa Lucas is a Project Manager for FIRST Tech Challenge. Her favorite projects include planning and hosting World Championship, organizing each season's Kickoff, and working as a communication liaison to the FIRST Tech Challenge community. Craig is a software engineer for FIRST Tech Challenge. He’s been with FIRST since 2018.",

In addition to front-line support, this team (comprising just 4 staff members) works closely with the programs managing key projects. For the last 12 years, Naomi has overseen the training of our Pit Administration volunteers for the FIRST Robotics Competition. If you have ever attended the FIRST Championship you might recognize her from running the “Pits” and working alongside our teams and volunteers. Her background includes hospitality and project management. Before her work at FIRST, Naomi worked for the Empire State Development Corporation where she worked on the beautification of 42nd Street between 7th and 8th avenues in New York City. She even has her name on a plaque in the New 42nd Street Theater!
Naomi attended Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire.
Fun Fact: Naomi’s superpower is gardening and is a native Spanish speaker. ",

After 17+ years, Andrea Winegar is still here! She started her FIRST career in 2004 working in the fabulous Operations/Team Support department helping guide and support teams with all of their incoming questions, curiosities and interests about our programs. In addition to her team responsibilities, her time was split supporting the Field Operations group with administrative Partner projects. She expanded her work 4 years later and took on Team Grant-related work, helping to ensure that our generous sponsor dollars were effectively distributed based on their local intent. In 2010, she shifted entirely to Field Operations working closely with FRC Partners in support of their program delivery needs, also assisting with focused grant opportunities to help expand team participation. As our community continued to grow globally, she took on Domestic Field Operations oversight responsibilities in 2019. With a cross-program eye on ecosystem development and stability, she’s amazed at the growth and achievements of our Program Delivery Partner organizations. Now in 2022, as the Director of Global Field Operations, she is proudly expanding her international FIRST knowledge helping support FIRST Partners deliver our programs to participants across the world. Maryana Svyatskiy has been with FIRST for the past 5 years and is currently a Senior Manager of Data Analytics & Business Intelligence. As part of FIRST Research & Evaluation team, Maryana helps leverage the power of data to maximize the impact of FIRST. After graduating with an Executive MBA degree, Maryana’s career path took her on a journey through Data Analytics and she’s been passionate about it for the past 15 years. ",

Kristen MacCulloch is a Project Manager for the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion team at FIRST. Previously working with the FIRST LEGO League Explore program for 8 years she joined the ED&I team in August of 2019. For the last 12 years, Naomi has overseen the training of our Pit Administration volunteers for the FIRST Robotics Competition. If you have ever attended the FIRST Championship you might recognize her from running the “Pits” and working alongside our teams and volunteers. Her background includes hospitality and project management. Before her work at FIRST, Naomi worked for the Empire State Development Corporation where she worked on the beautification of 42nd Street between 7th and 8th avenues in New York City. She even has her name on a plaque in the New 42nd Street Theater!
Naomi attended Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire.
