Jacqueline Lockie

Deputy Head of Financial Planning, CISI

Jacqueline is the Deputy Head of Financial Planning at the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment (CISI).

She has worked in the financial services sector since 1988 in technical and training roles and also as a financial planner. She is a Fellow of the CISI and holder of the internationally recognised Certified Financial Planner Licence, for which she was one of the first examiners in the UK.

“I have been involved with the judging of the Money Management Financial Planner of the Year awards since 1999.

Each year I have set a series of case studies which incorporate real life client scenarios and a set of questions to which entrants have to respond. Each case study is then marked anonymously and the overall winner and individual category winners and runners-up are then selected from this pool.

The awards changed slightly last year, with the case study becoming part of the interview process. Once the candidates have been shortlisted, they are invited for an interview and questioned on the advice that they gave in their written plan. From the outcome of that process the overall winner, category winners and runners-up are decided. The awards are changing slightly this year and the case study will become part of the interview process. Each submission will be marked against the international financial planning standards set by the Financial Planning Standards Board. Those standards allow some flexibility for varying answers and styles; there is no set correct answer to the questions & case studies because in the financial planning process each planner will approach the same problem differently."
