Shade refers to shade-tolerant species, Light to light-demanding and Intermediate to tree species with an intermediate light requirement. Classification according to Bartels (1993) and Ellenberg (1996). Very rare species were not categorized and were not included in the analysis of the diameter distribution of light-demanding vs. shade-tolerant species.
