Table C1. Spatial autocorrelation (as measured by Moran’s I) in the explanatory variables. Autocorrelation was calculcated at 1 m lags over a 10 m extent in each grid using the moran.test function (from the spdep package) in R (available from http://www.r-project.org/), and then averaged across the six grids for each predictor variable. Betula = cover of Betula nana, Empetrum = cover of Empetrum nigrum ssp. hermaphroditum.
