IF YOU CRAVE A WORLD OF COLOUR

Miguel Chevalier: Magic Carpets 2016 with Sound Spheres by Ray Lee

NEW COMMISSION

Miguel Chevalier - selected as the Festival’s Artist-in-Residence - has been commissioned by IF: 2016 and centre:mk to create Magic Carpets 2016 to animate Middleton Hall, covering it in huge carpets of light and colour over the 10 days of the Festival.

This large-scale interactive installation is the first time Miguel’s work will be shown in a retail environment.

Born in Mexico City and living in Paris since 1985, Miguel Chevalier is a pioneer of digital and virtual art. One of the most significant and sought after digital artists working today, his work designed for large spaces and important monumental buildings.

Creating a magical world of colour and shape, this kaleidoscopic interactive installation will invite people to explore and walk on the projected, interactive carpet as it changes designs and colours.

Magic Carpets 2016 is inspired by the iconic shapes associated with Milton Keynes’ city-scape and other sources such as patterns from the natural world.

Miguel has presented installations and immersive projections across the world in cities in Italy, Singapore, France, Italy, Morocco and Belgium.

Sound Spheres: A special mobile sound commission to accompany Magic Carpets 2016 is being created by sonic artist Ray Lee. As they prepare to walk onto the Magic Carpets, ‘explorers’ can carry a silver sphere that generates sound that reacts to changes in the Magic Carpets' projections.
