Environmental Chamber

Nottingham Trent University

The environmental chamber at Nottingham Trent University allows the replication of any climatic condition in the world. It is able to simulate conditions from -20 to +40 degrees Celsius, from very dry (5% humidity) to highly moist (95% humidity), as well as simulating altitude by nitrogen dilution techniques to induce a low oxygen environment – from the Alps to the Andes – all in Nottingham! The chamber is approved by the British Olympic Association and enables athletes to train in highly stressful conditions as to maximise their performances. As well as use by athletes, this can be used for teambuilding. Rolls Royce used the chamber for a team building exercise where colleagues were exposed to cold conditions and hot climates to see how they responded under extreme conditions – if they could make clear, correct, decisions in tough conditions then they should be able to tolerate boardroom pressures!
