No, Return
Mike is really good at this type of thing, but I suspect I just don't have the confidence to pull it off. I suspect there's nobody out there paying enough attention to care, anyway.
No no, that came out all wrong. I'm not being all "Nobody cares" sulky, I'm just trying to be realistic.
And typing random grot on a Friday night. Again.
Ah well.

I like it in small chunks!
(I'm useless at reading large quantities of text in one go on a monitor. It doesn't matter how interested I am in the story, I find my eyes wandering)
Ooh, somebody's reading! Brilliant.
But the big question is, what is the optimum gap to leave between different parts of the story? It needs to be short enough that you can remember what the hell's going on, but long enough that you are teased by the episodic nature of it... rather than just logging on and finding all the parts there to read in one go.
Of course, it all depends on how often people log on, and whether anyone would be interested enough to make a special visit, just to find out what happened next.
I think too much about some things, I really do.
I like small chunks - although I'm now reading all your output since Friday in one go, having not been online since then. As a sometime mistress of the blog post cliff-hanger myself, may I venture to suggest that these work far better during the week when many more people are reading and surfing?
BTW I'm glad your post about being blog-blocked had its traditionally laxative effect!!!
"although I'm now reading all your output since Friday in one go"
Yeah, that's the thing. I suspect most people don't visit often enough to be doing anything other than reading them all together.
But it's true, people do find small chunks easier to digest.
And of course you're right, episodic stuff works better mid-week.
I suspect the problem is that the only reason it's having to be cut up like this is that I didn't edit it very well in the first place. It's a bit of a beast. And of course, if I go the whole hog and, for instance, post one part every weekday, then it all feels a bit grandiose of me. And I'm not sure the whole thing is really gripping enough to merit such treatment.
But, yeah, whatever. I'll post part 4 on Monday.

[giggle]
Yeah. Funny that.
But of course what happens now is that there's far too much output for anyone to keep up with, and most of it goes unread.
And if only I could channel the energy that goes into this blog into my novel-writing instead...
