New Youth Theatre
Description and aims

To provide accommodation, storage, and onsite business support to the New Youth Theatre.

About New Youth Theatre

Established in 2002, New Youth Theatre is a children’s theatre company working in the Lincoln and Newark areas. The company runs a number of weekly classes and stages professional quality performances. Recent productions include High School Musical and Peter Pan. Classes are split into age groups starting from Tiny Tots at age 3 through to Seniors (9 – 16 years).

New Youth Theatre has recently expanded their business, introducing franchise opportunities.

How the project is being undertaken

New Youth Theatre has a long standing relationship with Bishop Grosseteste University College Lincoln (BG); they have using the campus facilities for classes and rehearsals since 2002 and one of the directors is a BG alumni.

In 2007 they expressed interest in office space within the newly refurbished Sky Centre, the University College’s hub for business support and enterprise, and have since moved their office base onto the campus. They benefit from access to meeting rooms, use of on-site catering facilities, networking and business training opportunities through in-house and partner organisations, many offered free of charge.

Another issue for the company was storage of their many costumes. There are now also housed within the Sky building. Plans for the future include a costume hire division of their company. BG drama department are also considering such a venture so a linked project may be considered which would maximise resources and marketing for both parties.
