NES
Leadership and Management
Description and aims
With a long standing reputation for excellence in delivering management, education and training programmes to the NHS, Leicester Business School was approached to address the management needs of senior healthcare professionals across Scotland. A postgraduate qualification was sought for delivery to managers across Scotland in a way which would encourage group networking and support without extensive face-to-face delivery or the time and cost implications that a traditional campus-based programme would entail.
About NES
NHS Education for Scotland (NES) helps to provide better patient care by providing targeted, effective, educational solutions for workforce development. NES also helps NHS Scotland to meet the priorities set out by the Scottish Government’s Better Health Better Care policy.
How the project is being undertaken
Leicester Business School’s Postgraduate Certificate in Frontline Leadership and Management was developed in a collaborative partnership with UHI Millennium Institute and NES. A series of collaborative workshops mapped NHS Scotland’s _Delivery Through Leadership _strategy. Leicester Business School academic expertise in programme design and delivery enabled the development of a tailored needs-based management education programme. This process ensured that specific NHS Scotland leadership priorities were met whilst addressing the challenges of delivering a programme to a large number of students across a wide geographic area.
Impacts and benefits
Over a 2 year period, more than 350 NHS Scotland professionals will be trained in the Frontline Leadership and Management education programme through a flexible blended learning format.
Leading Edge, Bespoke Solution
Developed specifically to meet the leadership and management needs of NES, the programme provides leading edge education. It runs in a future-proof format that is adaptable to emerging health service legislation and management theory.
Applied Learning
Students and their organisations benefit from sustained professional development through the application of theory in their working environment both during and after the learning process.
CMI Accreditation
The postgraduate Certificate in Frontline Leadership and Management has been fully recognised and accredited by the Chartered Institute of Management. This gives graduates the benefit of Associate Membership of the CMI upon completion of the course alongside a university postgraduate qualification.
