UNESCO ICT-CST / ICT Competency Standards for Teachers
Teachers own, in general, various aspects of needs for competences development that are obviously not limited to ICT skills. As a reference to proceed is useful to know that in 2008, UNESCO has designed the 'ICT-CST / ICT Competency Standards for Teachers' (UNESCO ICT-CST at: http://cst.unesco-ci.org/sites/projects/cst/default.aspx)
to help educational policy-makers and curriculum developers to identify the skills teachers need to install ICT in education. The Competency Standards were developed in cooperation with Cisco, Intel and Microsoft, as well as the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE).
In the 'ICT-CST' model, the definition of ICT competencies for teachers pass through a clear understanding of the country’s overall approach to ICT use in education.
The UNESCO framework was created crossing:
· Technology Literacy
· Knowledge Deepening
· Knowledge Creation
with six components of the educational systems:
· Policy & Vision
· Curriculum & Assessment
· Pedagogy
· ICT
· Organization & Administration
· Teacher Professional Development
Different countries could therefore be able to start or to implement the adoption of different approaches and stages like, for example, a 'technology-literate workforce to enhance national economic productivity and competitiveness' o a 'knowledge workers, or individuals who can apply knowledge to add value to the economy and society' or, finally, a country could develop 'innovators and knowledge creators for the knowledge society'.
